My name is Blane Young and I am involved with Chi Alpha Campus Ministries at the University of Alabama. I currently lead a guys cell group on friday nights called D-12, and we are seeing personal and spiritual growth like never before in the guys of our ministry. I also act as the resident MC for all of our events from outreaches to weekly services.
If you are wondering, as I do sometimes, how I ended up in Alabama being that I am from New Mexico, you will have to forward that e-mail question to the Man Upstairs. To give you a big picture perspective, I have felt called to ministry since the ripe age of 12 and ever since I felt God calling me (confirming it over and over), I have been pursuing his heart at full-speed ever since. I have had the chance to be involved in several different ministries before my time at Alabama. These include The Gathering Place , as well as my home church, Family Life Church, both in Brunswick, Ga.
My heart is for students: those that don't know about Jesus, those that have never heard His name, and those who are stuck in "cultural Christianity" (i've been there). My passion is trying to live a life that looks like a disciple of Jesus, a life that applies words in the Bible to everyday life.
On some lighter notes:
- I enjoy speaking at youth groups, conferences, retreats and camps
- I am a computer nerd (and no I don't have a Mac....yet)
- I am super-excited about Thailand
- I like Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey Ice Cream
- My favorite restaurant is Taco Cabana
